Privacy Policy
Cardsworth is built privacy-first. Everything you track lives on your Mac. There are no accounts, no bank logins, and no servers — we do not collect, transmit, or sell your information.
Cardsworth is a manual credit-card benefits tracker for macOS. Everything you enter — cardholders, cards and their credits, annual-fee decisions, points balances and redemptions, spend goals, certificates, offers, and notes — is stored locally on your Mac using Apple's SwiftData framework.
All data is stored on your device only. Cardsworth does not upload your data anywhere — we do not operate any servers and have no access to your data. Data is created solely through your direct manual input within the app. Cardsworth does not collect anything passively, automatically, or in the background. Optional reminders and desktop widgets are generated entirely on your Mac from that same local data — no notification or widget content ever leaves the device.
Account terms, membership confirmations, statement closing days, enrollment dates, qualifying-purchase confirmations, personal benefit values and Bilt statement inputs are also saved locally. JSON backups include these settings. Cardsworth does not contact an issuer to verify them. If you choose to open an issuer source link, your browser visits that issuer website under its own privacy policy.
Cardsworth never connects to your banks, card issuers, or any financial aggregator. There are no account logins, no Plaid or similar linking, and no imported transactions. Every number and card in the app is one you entered yourself. Because nothing is linked, there are no credentials for us — or anyone — to access.
Cardsworth is designed for U.S.-issued cards, U.S. English, and U.S. dollars. Custom cards can be entered manually, but the app does not currently provide mixed-currency conversion or a localized interface.

Cardsworth can optionally use a picture you choose from your own files as artwork for a card. Any image you import is re-encoded on your Mac to strip embedded metadata (such as EXIF and GPS location) before it is stored, and it is stored locally with your data. Cardsworth ships with stylized, generated card artwork by default and does not require you to add any images.
This version of Cardsworth does not sync between devices — all data lives on the Mac where it was created. Your Mac's standard backups (Time Machine or a full-disk backup) may include Cardsworth's data like any other app's, and Migration Assistant can move it to a new Mac. You can also create a JSON backup or export at any time from within the app and keep it wherever you like. Saved card numbers are the exception: they are device-only keychain items, so Migration Assistant, a Time Machine restore and Cardsworth's own backups do not carry them to another Mac. Re-enter them on the new Mac if you want them there. As of version 1.4, removing a card or a cardholder deletes its saved number, and restoring or importing a backup removes numbers for cards the backup does not contain.
Cardsworth is free to download and includes a 14-day free trial of every feature, followed by an optional one-time purchase to unlock the app for life — there is no subscription. All purchases are processed entirely through Apple's App Store. We do not have access to your payment information, Apple ID, or purchase history. Transactions are governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
Cardsworth does not integrate any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. We do not use services like Google Analytics, Firebase, or any ad networks. No user data is shared with any third party, parent company, subsidiary, or affiliated entity. Apple's App Store processes the optional purchase. Issuer source links open external websites in your browser when you choose to follow them, under the destination site's own privacy policy. App Store transactions are governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
Cardsworth stores your data in its own sandboxed container on your Mac, which macOS keeps separate from other apps. Because nothing is transmitted anywhere, there is no server, account, or network connection to compromise.
To be clear about what that does and does not mean: Cardsworth's database and its JSON backups are stored unencrypted inside that container. As of version 1.2, Cardsworth offers an optional Touch ID or password app lock (Settings › Privacy & App Lock) that keeps the app window and menu-bar panel behind authentication, but it does not encrypt those files — anyone who can log into your macOS user account, or who can read the files on an unencrypted disk, can still read your Cardsworth data. We recommend enabling FileVault, macOS's built-in full-disk encryption, which protects Cardsworth's data along with everything else on your Mac. Broader at-rest encryption of the database and backups is planned for a future release.
One exception, added in version 1.3: if you choose to save a card's number, that number and its expiration are encrypted in your Mac's keychain, stored only on that device — never in the database, the JSON backups, the widgets, or any cloud sync — and shown in full only after a Touch ID or Mac-password check. No card security code (CVV) is ever stored.
Because all data is stored locally on your Mac, Cardsworth does not retain any of your data on external servers. Your data persists for as long as the app is installed and you choose to keep it.
You can delete individual records — cardholders, cards, credits, redemptions, offers, certificates, and more — at any time from within the app. You can also use "Erase Everything" in Settings › Data Controls, which clears every cardholder, card, credit, balance, redemption, and note from Cardsworth's active database. Saved card numbers live in your keychain rather than the database. In version 1.3.1 and earlier, remove each one from its card ("Remove card number") before you erase. As of version 1.4, "Erase Everything" also deletes every saved card number from your keychain, clears pending and delivered reminders, and compacts the database file so erased records do not linger inside it.
Backups, and what an erase does with them. "Erase Everything" writes one final backup immediately beforehand, and Cardsworth also keeps automatic daily snapshots (on by default, most recent 14 retained). As of version 1.4, backups you make yourself (up to 20) and the safety copies taken before an erase, restore or sample-data load (up to 5 of each) are kept separately, so they no longer push daily snapshots out. Those snapshot files are complete copies of your data, including any income or business-revenue figures you entered. The erase dialog offers a checkbox to delete every saved backup along with your data — it tells you how many there are, and it is off by default so you keep a recovery point. Leave it unchecked and those files remain on your Mac until you remove them yourself; tick it and those backup files are deleted too, including the backup the erase just wrote. You can review or delete snapshots at any time from Settings › Backups using "Reveal folder."
Deleting the Cardsworth app does not remove its data by itself. As with other Mac apps, its data folder, automatic backups and preferences stay in your user Library after the app is moved to the Trash, and saved card numbers stay in your keychain. To remove everything, use "Erase Everything" with the backup checkbox ticked before you delete the app. In version 1.3.1 and earlier, remove any saved card numbers from their cards first; as of version 1.4 the erase removes them too. Copies inside backups you made yourself, or inside your Mac's own backups (such as Time Machine), persist until those backups are updated or deleted.

Because Cardsworth does not collect or transmit data to external servers, there is no account to close and no remote data to request deletion of. All data management happens entirely on your Mac.

Cardsworth is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any data from minors.
If we update this privacy policy, the revised version will be posted here with an updated effective date. Continued use of the app constitutes acceptance of any changes.
